Sorry I have to disappoint you again, but I'm still not quite getting what's wrong in that area after looking at the data.

I'll load the New Zealand maps from MapSource into my Garmin GPS and see if they display okay. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just tested the New Zealand maps after I downloaded them to my Garmin GPSmap 76CSx and all of the detail is showing up at various zoom levels. It seems that the problem is just with MapSource.
